Top 4 Christian Authors In My Home!

Faithful Reads for Little Hearts & Big Conversations

ree

As a mom who’s passionate about weaving faith into the everyday rhythms of our home, one of my greatest joys is reading Christ-centered books to my children. There’s something deeply moving about watching truth take root in their hearts through beautifully written stories and imaginative illustrations.

Over the years, we’ve discovered a handful of authors whose books consistently point our family back to the gospel in powerful and accessible ways. Today, I’m sharing our top four Christian children’s authors—writers whose work is theologically sound, creatively engaging, and foundational in our home. These aren’t just favorites; they’re formative.

1. Ellie Holcomb

Creation Through Song and Story

Ellie Holcomb’s books are nothing short of poetic theology for little ones. A singer-songwriter by profession, Ellie brings her gift for lyrical beauty into each of her children’s books. What makes her work so special is the way she gently and creatively teaches deep truths—like how God sang the first song, how creation reminds us of His love, and how we’re all invited to lift our voices in praise of the great gift of Jesus.

Each book includes an original song that is the words of the books. These songs aren’t just cute jingles—they’re rich with truth and perfect for car rides, bedtime wind-downs, or spontaneous worship moments in the kitchen. My daughter often hum the melodies long after we’ve closed the book, and I love knowing that biblical truth is being etched into her heart through music.

2. Carl Laferton

Tales That Tell the Truth

Carl Laferton’s “Tales That Tell the Truth” series has been a favorite read. Each book masterfully connects well-known Bible stories to the larger narrative of redemption—Jesus and the cross. Our absolute favorite? The Garden, The Curtain, and The Cross. I wish I had read it as a child because it would have helped me understand the bigger picture of the gospel. It presents the full gospel in a way that is clear, engaging, and surprisingly profound.

What’s more, every book in the series has a corresponding coloring and activity book, which means the conversation doesn’t stop when the story ends. These extras have help reinforce the messages while giving kids a creative outlet to process what they’re learning.

3. Max Lucado

Timeless Truths for Growing Hearts

Max Lucado has long been a beloved name in Christian literature, and his children’s books are no exception. While he has an impressive catalog, the Wemmicks series holds a special place in our hearts. These stories explore identity, self-worth, and the importance of seeing ourselves through God’s eyes rather than the world’s standards.

The characters are relatable, the storytelling is warm and whimsical, and the spiritual truths are deeply rooted in the gospel. I especially love that the books carry such rich lessons in a narrative style that feels approachable—even for kids who may not yet know Jesus. They're perfect gifts for both believers and non-believers.

4. Beth Guckenberger

Big Truths in Simple, Profound Ways

Beth Guckenberger writes with such thought and clarity—it’s no surprise that her books have become regular reads in our home. Titles like The Heart Who Wanted to Find a Way are packed with biblical wisdom, yet delivered in a way that feels gentle and accessible for kids.

One phrase my daughter has memorized from one of the books—and often repeats when she’s feeling unsure—is: “I’m okay. I can pray. God made today. He is the way.” These aren’t just rhyming lines; they’re declarations of truth that remind her (and me) that God is near and faithful.

Beth’s stories speak to real issues our kids face—identity, fear, direction, and belonging—while pointing them back to God as their source of truth and hope. These books open the door for deeper conversations and have been a huge blessing in helping us disciple our kids at home.

These four authors have helped shape our family’s faith journey in such meaningful ways. Their books offer more than just bedtime stories—they’re tools for planting seeds of gospel truth that we pray will grow for years to come.

If you’re building a Christ-centered home and looking for resources that are both theologically rich and visually stunning, I can’t recommend these authors enough. They’re our everyday go-tos, gift-giving staples, and a cherished parenting tool.

Which Christian children’s authors have shaped your family’s bookshelf? I’d love to hear your favorites too.
